Five US Cities Remote Workers Are Flocking To

No longer tethered to offices, many US workers are taking advantage of their newfound freedom. Office workers are turning into digital nomads as they book long-term stays around the country to work from home in a new setting. Airbnb reports that one in five stays booked is for 28 days or more. Thanks to digital nomads, this is an increase from 13% in 2019.

Many professionals are using Airbnb rentals to try out new cities and neighborhoods they’re considering moving to. What are some of the most popular US destinations remote workers are flocking to for their home offices away from home? Find out here, in our latest blog.

Boise, Idaho

Average daily Airbnb rate: $152

Idaho offers much more than potatoes. Boise has been called the best place for millennials to live in the US, according to Forbes, and is one of the fast-growing cities in the country. The city of more than 230,000 has nearly 20% more residents than one decade ago, according to USA Today.

Does it seem like everyone is talking about Boise? They are, and that’s because it is affordable, safe, offers great weather and plenty of entertainment, outdoor recreation, and cultural and art options. It has a vibrant downtown yet with extraordinary access to natural beauty. If you’re a nature lover, Boise is a perfect place to work remotely.

Miami, Florida

Average daily Airbnb rate: $233

South Beach is bringing the heat – literally and figuratively – for remote workers. South Beach is the quintessential Miami experience, but the city offers more than sun, sand, and surf. The city also offers plenty of high-end designer shops, art galleries, walking tours, salsa dancing, food halls, museums, and more. From the Design District and Wynwood to Bickell and Little Havana, it's no wonder digital nomads are flocking to South Florida.

Florida remains a desirable tourist destination, making it an optimal market to cobuy and rent out when not in use.

Los Angeles, California

Average daily Airbnb rate: $217

The weather is nice and the beaches are iconic. But there is far more to Los Angeles than many people realize, which makes it one of Airbnb’s top 20 cities in the world for digital nomads. There's plenty of shopping and celebrity sightings, but it's also a great place for the outdoorsy types. For instance, Angeles National Forest has more than 1,000 square miles of wilderness and 53 trailheads. Whether hiking, biking, running or boating, there is something for everyone.

Millions of tourists and an ever-growing number of digital nomads flock to Los Angeles due to the wide variety of activities available.

Santa Fe, New Mexico

Average daily Airbnb rate: $259

Known as “The City Different,” Santa Fe is one of the United States’ most historic, artistic, and fascinating cities. Its rich Hispanic, Anglo, and Native American cultures are apparent in the art, cuisine, architecture, and traditions. If you’re an art buff, Santa Fe will be your cup of tea. The city has more than 250 art galleries and is one of the largest art markets in the United States.

Plus, Santa Fe is surrounded by mountains, bike trails, and hiking. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, explore the restaurant scene, from traditional New Mexican cuisine to fine-dining restaurants.

Park City, Utah

Average daily Airbnb rate: $443

Located 35 minutes outside of Salt Lake City, Park City is the perfect destination for remote workers. Park City is a winter wonderland with plentiful mountain peaks for skiing or snowshoeing. Winter is high season, of course, bringing crowds and high prices, too. But even if you’re not a snow-lover, visiting in spring is another great option and is lighter on the wallet.

Park City has a robust public transportation system where you won’t need a car. From a free downtown trolley to buses, and hotel shuttles to rideshare, it’ll be easy to get around.

One thing most of these destinations have in common is a mix of outdoor adventure and city perks. Whether looking for a new place to experience for one month or six, digital nomads are using their newfound flexibility to explore the country as they work remotely.
